About Us

Canberra’s Sustainable House is the premier showcase environmentally friendly home and sustainability consultancy business located in an inner suburb of Australia’s capital city, Canberra.

We are a unique combination of sustainability advisory service and house that displays worlds’ best practice in sustainable technologies and lifestyle.

Owned by scientist, educator and sustainability consultant, Nicholas Mayo and textile conservator and Antarctic authority, Sarah Clayton. Canberra’s Sustainable House is unique for a range of reasons.

The home is heated entirely with solar energy, passively providing supreme year round comfort. Canberra’s Sustainable House hot-water requirements are serviced with sunlight alone, no ‘boosting’ here.

Nick and Sarah harvest all their water needs on site, using innovative systems. Canberra’s Sustainable House has no connection to the ACT Water and Sewerage network out of respect for our local river systems. They do not pay water and sewerage fees. A productive and vibrant kitchen garden links the house to the garden.
